<description>&#60;p&#62;I know it's not directly webfiction related, but I figure a lot of you cross over into self-pubbing as well... so you might find my thoughts on this interesting.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;a href=&#34;https://www.eviscerati.org/commentary/2012/02/07/everything-old-new-again-why-kdp-select-probably-isnt-good-self-published&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;https://www.eviscerati.org/commentary/2012/02/07/everything-old-new-again-why-kdp-select-probably-isnt-good-self-published&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;

<title>A. M. Harte on "Get featured on a webfiction podcast!"</title>
<link>http://forums.webfictionguide.com/topic/get-featured-on-a-webfiction-podcast#post-6731</link>

<description>&#60;p&#62;[Updated on January 2 2012]&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Greg X Graves and I, in collaboration with The Webcast Beacon, have set up a podcast called &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.webcastbeacon.com/category/webfiction-world/&#34;&#62;Webfiction World&#60;/a&#62;, dedicated entirely to webfiction!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Get your story featured!&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
We are always looking for authors interested in getting their story featured on the show. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Every episode will have a 5-10 minute reading slot, with of course credits &#38;amp; links to the author. So we're looking for  short stories or webfiction excerpts (&#60;strong&#62;MAX 1,500 words&#60;/strong&#62;) to feature during these slots.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If you have a short story or (fairly standalone) excerpt from your serial that could work well for readings, and that you'd be happy to let us read/record/perform in our podcast, please drop a line in the comments.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Please follow the format below:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Title: Above Ground&#60;br /&#62;
Author: A.M. Harte&#60;br /&#62;
Word count: xxx words&#60;br /&#62;
Link: &#60;a href=&#34;http://qazyfiction.com&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://qazyfiction.com&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Curious to hear what the readings sound like before you submit? Check out &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.webcastbeacon.com/category/webfiction-world/&#34;&#62;Episode 02&#60;/a&#62; which includes a reading from MCA Hogarth's webfiction Spots the Space Marine.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Like the sound of your voice?&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
You're also welcome to submit readings directly -- ie, you reading aloud your work. All the details for that are &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.webcastbeacon.com/contribute/#readings&#34;&#62;here&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Want more?&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
Please also drop a line if you're not afraid of talking to strangers &#38;amp; would be interested in being a guest on the show. We aim to record on Sundays circa 3pm Eastern time via Skype, but could perhaps be flexible with timings.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;Note: If we choose to feature you/your work, we WILL be slow in getting back to you -- perhaps even a couple months -- because the podcast is roughly monthly. But I'm keeping an eye on this thread, rest assured!&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;em&#62;Connect with us on &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.facebook.com/webfictionworld&#34;&#62;facebook&#60;/a&#62; or &#60;a href=&#34;http://twitter.com/#!/webfictionradio&#34;&#62;twitter&#60;/a&#62;, or &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.webcastbeacon.com/category/webfiction-world/feed/&#34;&#62;subscribe to our rss&#60;/a&#62;.&#60;/em&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Hey folks!  I wanted to throw my link out there.  I publish a monthly (ish) web serial titled &#34;Animus: The Struggle for Survival.&#34;  In a few words, think of a classic good-vs-evil, utopian-meets-wild-west kind of deal. Stories in Arc One focus on character drama, action/adventure, dark themes, and intrigue.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Here is a link - the site has been active since August of 2010, and I have just published my twenty-third episode!&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;I was thinking of putting Pay Me, Bug! up on Wattpad as a way to introduce more people to that story, but I'm not really sure. I sort of have the impression that Wattpad is mostly a YA genre site and PMB! is definitely not that.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Have any of you used it? Thoughts/impressions?

<description>&#60;p&#62;Since it is only a few days into the year of 2012, I thought now would be a good time to post this up and see what you all reply with.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;As a writer, what are your New Years resolutions or goals? It can be writing in general, a specific story, an event etc, as long as it deals with writing.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;My goals are the following:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;1.) Stay at least one chapter ahead of the story updating on my site.&#60;br /&#62;
2.) Work on finding at least one beta reader to help me with Shadow's Light.&#60;br /&#62;
3.) Find more affiliates to get to know and befriend.

<title>Kyt Dotson on "Ouch: When backups go wrong"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;Well, I had a bit of a snafu recently. I've been working hard on Black Hat Magick volume 2: Tango &#38;amp; Cache when -- if thour't following my Twitter feed @kytsune -- I discovered that I'd somehow lost chapter 15. Totally missing. Not present in any of my online backups.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The worst part of this is that I don't have incremental backups that last more than a month now. I used to run an SVN server that would keep my files in revisions so that I could roll them back if I were to totally catastrophically mess something up.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Does anyone have an incremental or revision backup service they've found useful?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Of course, part of my problem is that I also encrypt my entire manuscript (in one volume) which I figure I'd have to give up for incremental backups. Not that I'm paranoid about someone taking my story, it's more about keeping data safely in the cloud.

<description>&#60;p&#62;Well, I went and did it. I've edited it as much as I can without paying for a proper editor (which means it's still 20% more error-laden than your averaged professionally published book, but hopefully significantly less error-laden than your average self-published book) and it's now making its way out to the ebook stores...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It's already out on Amazon for the Kindle and the Kindle app:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.amazon.com/Pay-Me-Bug-ebook/dp/B0063XGYU8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#38;amp;qid=1320673431&#38;amp;sr=8-1&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://www.amazon.com/Pay-Me-Bug-ebook/dp/B0063XGYU8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#38;amp;qid=1320673431&#38;amp;sr=8-1&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It should be out on Barnes and Noble later today. I'm still working on getting it out on iTunes, and I have no idea what to do with Smashwords since I created my own epub and they demand something in MS Word format. :P&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;But hey! It's very exciting for me!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The next step is, of course, publicity. I'm pretty sure that's going to be a mitigated[1] disaster. I'm at work now so I can't do too much but this evening I'll be preparing the official announcement on my site. Other than that I guess I... hm...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Yeah. That's the problem right there. Other than flacking it on my site, I have no idea what to do. I am working on a dead-tree version that I'm going to put on Lulu, since a physical object might be a good Christmas present, and I hope to have that ready soon. And I might be able to use the dead-tree version to generate a review or two from a few people, but... I dunno. Other than that, all the research I've done (i.e., looking at other people posting about how to get the word out) has resulted in some very broad concepts that seem marvelously ineffective.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Ah well. Anyway, just wanted to share!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;----&#60;br /&#62;
[1]&#34;Mitigated&#34; in terms of &#34;having very low expectations.&#34;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Just thought I should bring this particular matter to everyone attention.  We all WORK at our writing, and there is a man out there just indiscriminately stealing our work! (Not mine in particular, but over 60 other authors!)&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;His name is David Boyer.  Brian Keene and several others have started writing letters Amazon and to Tom Irons (Indiana Attorney General) to try and get this resolved.  Please, please take a few minutes to check out the following links.   and then maybe a few minutes more to wrote your own letters.  Be sure to include file # 10-CP-62157&#60;/p&#62;

<title>Gavin Williams on "Can someone explain &#34;Steampunk&#34; to me?"</title>

<guid isPermaLink="false">7397@http://forums.webfictionguide.com/</guid>
<description>&#60;p&#62;I understand that &#34;Steampunk&#34; is a term generally referring to stories (and I guess shows or video games) that feature classic 19th/early 20th century settings with some science-fiction and perhaps fantasy magic to spice things up.  &#34;Steam&#34; because things were mainly steam-powered (like trains).  &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;My question is more, can anyone explain to me why this is a genre all of a sudden?  I can see it being interesting once, with whoever &#34;invented&#34; the first story, but I'm not really clear on why it seems to have so many writers online jumping onto the bandwagon.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;This isn't a criticism, mind you, I don't know enough about the genre to wonder why people are following the trend.  I'm asking &#34;Why is it a trend at all?&#34;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Get Off My Internets has Project Wonderful ad space available. Thought I'd pass this on here because I love GOMI, I've done advertising with them before and I've always gotten great results. Their ad space easily gets over 28,000 impressions a day, but they tend to have trouble because they don't want ugly corporate ads.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Naturally I told them PW was the way to go because of all the cool webcomic/webfiction people there. So now I want to bring this is your attention so that I don't end up looking like a liar XD Go get it while the bidding is still dirt cheap!&#60;br /&#62;
