<title>Alexandra Erin on "Who&#039;s on Kindle?"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;I might be hopelessly behind the curve on this, since I've spent a lot of time seriously disconnected from people... but then, I thought the same thing about PayPal's micropayments and apparently other people missed out on that, too. (Search the forum if you're one of them. There was a post about them a year ago. Or just Google it.)&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Does everybody who's doing serials or otherwise frequently-updating sites have an RSS feed, and is everybody putting their feeds on Kindle?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The first time the idea was proposed to me by a reader, I thought it was silly... Amazon would charge them to read my free content? And on a platform that -has- a web browser? Anyway, it sounded like a lot of work. So I didn't look into it at all until much later, and I've learned that it's almost no work at all, it gives the reader a much better experience reading on their Kindle than using the web browser, it's more convenient for people who tend to do their electronic reading on their Kindle anyways, and basically you never say &#34;no&#34; when a reader says &#34;Can I give you money and make it easier for me to keep up with your work all at the same time?&#34;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Getting your work into the Kindle Blogs store is not going to be the gateway to instant fame and fortune. You might occasionally have someone stumble across it by accident but there are a lot of other blogs they could stumble into first. Basically people have to be looking for it to find it. But if you have readers and they have Kindles, this could be worth your while.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;(Potential downside: Your feed must have the full story, not a summary or excerpt. If you have pageview-based income, this can cut into it. You can possibly get around this by setting up two feeds, one that you link to on the site and one that you point Kindle towards. But really, while I used to distrust a full-story feed, I think the upsides in terms of making it easy for readers to keep up with you outweigh the downsides that might come from lost pageviews. And there are ways to embed ads in RSS feeds.)&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;a href=&#34;https://kindlepublishing.amazon.com/&#34;&#62;Here's the website.&#60;/a&#62; Note that the website only works in IE and Firefox.

<description>&#60;p&#62;You may have heard of the google group discussing the Webfiction Writers Guild and how it's going to work.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Well, all that talking has resulted in a survey to try set some ground rules on definitions and such. (Yay, democracy!) &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If you have a few minutes to spare please fill &#60;a href=&#34;http://is.gd/ga6kJ&#34;&#62;out the survey&#60;/a&#62;.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;And do pass it one to any other webfiction writers you know!

<title>M.C.A. Hogarth on "In Which the Author Sings for Money. Literally!"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;I'm serious!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Today I put up the 118th episode of &#34;Spots the Space Marine,&#34; a military SF novel which is now about 75% complete and available online. Today's upload included a special incentive: I did a bit of voice acting and sang the Cuban lullaby the main character sings in the episode and put it up for download as an MP3. Right now only people who pass me a tip can get to the download page, but we are... really, really close to a donation goal I set. When the tips meet that goal, the song will be free for everyone to hear (releasing, incidentally, a bit of a lost culture, music from the Cuba before Castro and Communism changed everything).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;So, a good day to start reading Spots, if you've been thinking of doing so and haven't. You can start here at &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.stardancer.org/spots/episodes&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://www.stardancer.org/spots/episodes&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Today's incentive post is being hosted on livejournal: &#60;a href=&#34;http://haikujaguar.livejournal.com/832001.html&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://haikujaguar.livejournal.com/832001.html&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;When the donations hit that goal, the MP3 will show up on the archive site, too.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;So if you like action stories... and character-driven stories... and stories with lots of guns, lots of alien cultural interaction and kick-tail moms who don't have to be snarky and have intimacy issues to shoot thirty aliens in a dark corridor without breaking a sweat (much)... come by and see what readers are paying me weekly to write for them!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;--M.

<description>&#60;p&#62;I think that I have possibly already mentioned this on my Twitter, but for those not following there, now that I have internet again, I have taken my serial 'Cold Ghost' off of its hiatus, and have begun posting again.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Chapter 12 went up 20 minutes or so ago, and I'm hoping to introduce some background and side stories as well, especially since I decided to participate in WeSeWriMo, as a way of shaking off the writing cobwebs. Hope you all enjoy!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Navigation for 'Cold Ghost' can be found here: &#60;a href=&#34;http://evashandor.wordpress.com/webnovel-indexes/&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://evashandor.wordpress.com/webnovel-indexes/&#60;/a&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;I’ve been mulling this idea over for a while so I figured that I’d present it here.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;How many people here have used video media to promote their work? I am interesting in looking at some of it, and perhaps promoting it on my YouTUBE channel. However, this is really only part of that.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I am wondering how many people might be interesting in getting together to produce a short, collaborative work where people simply talk briefly about their work. Something that could be presented as a sort of video-collage essay to get some video viewers interested in the weblit community.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I don’t have much to do now because I’m between projects and editing work for my next one. So I’ve got lots of time on my hands to cut something together. (Also, I don’t see this needing to be studio-perfect.)

<title>intergal on "Translating your fiction?"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;Recently, I'd followed some advice from Miladysa and set up a sitemeter account to try and monitor the traffic for my web serial and what not. It had been recommended as an alternative to Google Analytics. I've since noticed that I've had a few visits from readers in Japan (one of whom apparently lives in the gardens at the Imperial Palace), and a follower on Twitter now as well, and I had been toying for much longer with the idea of possibly posting 'Cold Ghost' in Japanese as well.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I suppose the actual question is, are there many other web authors who are having their works translated, or translating them themselves? If you spoke another language to a high level, is it something that you would ever consider? Do you think it would be a worthwhile venture to widen your reader base? Have you ever used non-English language net-working sites like mixi to promote your weblit?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In my own case, I do speak Japanese to a high level and I think on a personal level, it would mean a great academic development for me. Part of the story is set there, and a good chunk of the cast speak Japanese. I often plan Yukihiro's dialogue in Japanese in my head first. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;My main concern is getting a proof-reader and editor - I've since lost my English language editor to the ravages of her exams, never mind getting a Japanese language one. Also, I feel like no matter how high my level is, if I'm submitting something important, I need a native speaker to check over it for me. I might be able to prevail on friends, but I've not really publicsed what I do with most of my old uni classmates.

<description>&#60;p&#62;Hi,&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I've been a member of WFG for a while, quietly adding stories to the catalog. I could really use some help, as my stories have very few ratings, and many have no reviews or ratings besides the initial evaluation of the first chapter. So if you have some free time, please check out one or two of these links and consider leaving a review or rating:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Blind Rage (Dark fantasy/Werekin pack)&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;p&#62;I have a number of other completed stories available in my web site, and I will continue to add those to the directory over time. So I hope you will check out my bookshelf from time to time. If you can't find anything you like now, please don't assume that I always write the same stuff. Check back later, because I might have something closer to your preferences.&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;It's taken me some time to get this up--about four months--but at long last, Cloudnigh is live.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Cloudnigh is an online light-serial taking place in the somewhat-distant future, after humanity's relocation to a new world at lightspeed warps their genetic make up, giving them two hearts and complete energy efficiency. Against this backdrop is the tricardiac mutant, Roman Fairchild, a seventeen-year-old whose online relationship to Kyrie Kapoor comes to a head when her band posts a show in his home town. All seems to be going well, until The Siphon, a sinister war game replacing executive government comes literally crashing down on his doorstep. Soon, everything Roman knows is thrown into upheaval as the world, both at home and abroad, seems ready to rend itself apart. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;You can find the site at &#60;a href=&#34;http://cloudnigh.com&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://cloudnigh.com&#60;/a&#62;, and the forums at &#60;a href=&#34;http://leophimforums.com&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://leophimforums.com&#60;/a&#62;. The story is updated on Tuesdays and Fridays. =) &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reading!
