I've decided to have a go at making my livejournal, which is where I post my serials (I have two running concurrently now!) available as a subscription blog on Amazon's kindle store. I have no idea whether it will have any success at all, but I am curious to see what happens! Is anyone else trying this? Does anyone else read blogs through their e-book readers?

Here's the URL for mine; amusingly, people can review it! Like any other product. What a funny notion!

My Steampunk Fantasy series, 'Shadow - Monsters, Machines and Mad Scientists' has just been added to the listings and I would be most grateful to anyone with the time and inclination to give it a quick browse and either tell me what you think, or post a review on the listings page.

Read it if you like a quick read, adventure, slightly mad characters, a dash of humour, a bit of intrigue.

Don't read it if you're looking for great literature. This is definitely for entertainment rather than enlightenment.

Thank you.

After a little over a year and a half of posting twice a week I've come to the end of Spots the Space Marine, which is at its completion a proper novel-length novel. It feels very strange to have finished, after I've been at it so doggedly for so long. This will be my fourth web serial; the first was Flight of the Godkin Griffin, which I started writing in 2003, followed by the two short-story collections about Kherishdar, The Aphorisms of Kherishdar and The Admonishments of Kherishdar.

I've already started the next, Black Blossom (http://www.stardancer.org/project/blackblossom), a fantasy of manners, and will probably start serializing an urban fantasy about angels in a few months.

After finishing four of these, I'm starting to come to some conclusions about the differences between writing serially and writing "in the garret." I hope those crystallize at some point. But until I have something more coherent to say than "OMG IT'S OVER I CAN FALLOVER NOW" I will just say: come read the new serial while it's only 10 episodes in! This is gonna be a long one! :)

I might be hopelessly behind the curve on this, since I've spent a lot of time seriously disconnected from people... but then, I thought the same thing about PayPal's micropayments and apparently other people missed out on that, too. (Search the forum if you're one of them. There was a post about them a year ago. Or just Google it.)

Does everybody who's doing serials or otherwise frequently-updating sites have an RSS feed, and is everybody putting their feeds on Kindle?

The first time the idea was proposed to me by a reader, I thought it was silly... Amazon would charge them to read my free content? And on a platform that -has- a web browser? Anyway, it sounded like a lot of work. So I didn't look into it at all until much later, and I've learned that it's almost no work at all, it gives the reader a much better experience reading on their Kindle than using the web browser, it's more convenient for people who tend to do their electronic reading on their Kindle anyways, and basically you never say "no" when a reader says "Can I give you money and make it easier for me to keep up with your work all at the same time?"

Getting your work into the Kindle Blogs store is not going to be the gateway to instant fame and fortune. You might occasionally have someone stumble across it by accident but there are a lot of other blogs they could stumble into first. Basically people have to be looking for it to find it. But if you have readers and they have Kindles, this could be worth your while.

(Potential downside: Your feed must have the full story, not a summary or excerpt. If you have pageview-based income, this can cut into it. You can possibly get around this by setting up two feeds, one that you link to on the site and one that you point Kindle towards. But really, while I used to distrust a full-story feed, I think the upsides in terms of making it easy for readers to keep up with you outweigh the downsides that might come from lost pageviews. And there are ways to embed ads in RSS feeds.)

Here's the website. Note that the website only works in IE and Firefox.

"The Surprising Life and Death of Diggory Franklin" has been on the WFG since 2008, so it might seem funny that I'm requesting a review. However, timing is everything -- there were editor reviews in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and they helped me to put the story in perspective and see how well it was working. Now, I've just finished Book 9 (The Shocking Trial!) and it's an excellent point for a retrospective look, as it brought back almost every character from all 9 books and it's building towards the inevitable September that Calla Wiley predicted would see the demise of Diggory.

Book 10 leads up to those events, and then the story is going to be drastically different -- I don't want to give anything away other than my writing is exciting me lately, so I've been updating daily out of sheer enthusiasm. So I feel this is the best time to ask for people to take a serious look at the entire series to date and share their thoughts, even if it's just to update an old review. I'd love to see new viewpoints on the story as it takes a new direction as well.

In addition, we're running a bonus story incentive that for every 5 reviews on WFG I'll explore side stories through the other characters, deepening the story mythology, so you'll be helping my readers get more of what they enjoy!

Thanks in advance,

Gavin

Hello to everyone here at Web Fiction Guide.
Now that my two stories are listed here, I would like to share my web serial site, Ayami Publications, with everyone here: http://ayami.rain.org/

There I am serializing novels I have written (and I hope to one day also share the work of other writers, if I can ever get out of the cave long enough to find any) . There are currently two going, which are listed here on Web Fiction Guide at:
http://webfictionguide.com/listings/beyond-knowledge/
and http://webfictionguide.com/listings/to-see-the-stars/

Both are sci-fi, but while To See the Stars as God is more an adventure story, Beyond Knowledge is a social drama.
Please read and comment, and know that there will be many more stories there in the future, all of which I will be listing here.

I just wanted to wave hello and explain the sudden appearance of Spots the Space Marine, since I saw a couple of questions about it on Twitter; I feel a bit sheepish!

I've been writing Spots twice a week for about a year now on Livejournal, which I like because it makes threaded conversations easy for brain-dead new moms with no sleep (that would be me). I never had the chance to list it here or on Muse's Success because its website linked to the LJ entries and didn't have proper interior navigation. But a couple of weeks ago my web-admin and I got together and did a one-day transfer of 73+ episodes, plus illustrations so we could put together proper navigation. I submitted the serial to both sites and told my readers... that's how it showed up so abruptly on the Top Web Fiction site and on Twitter's WebFicWed tag.

The serial's my current crowdfunded endeavor. Some of the episodes are illustrated, either with directly embedded pictures or with links to exterior sketches, both by me. It's about half-finished, and I donate some of my profit to a couple of charities that benefit active duty and wounded soldiers.

I'm hoping the new (proper!) navigation will help new readers get into it!

It's taken me some time to get this up--about four months--but at long last, Cloudnigh is live.

Cloudnigh is an online light-serial taking place in the somewhat-distant future, after humanity's relocation to a new world at lightspeed warps their genetic make up, giving them two hearts and complete energy efficiency. Against this backdrop is the tricardiac mutant, Roman Fairchild, a seventeen-year-old whose online relationship to Kyrie Kapoor comes to a head when her band posts a show in his home town. All seems to be going well, until The Siphon, a sinister war game replacing executive government comes literally crashing down on his doorstep. Soon, everything Roman knows is thrown into upheaval as the world, both at home and abroad, seems ready to rend itself apart.

You can find the site at http://cloudnigh.com, and the forums at http://leophimforums.com. The story is updated on Tuesdays and Fridays. =)

Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reading!

I've recently decided to enter the web fiction arena. I am the author of the four-part fantasy series The Rys Chronicles. I published them a few years ago as books and ebooks, and now I have started an online version of the first novel, Union of Renegades. I will be posting every chapter of the book.

Additionally, the wordpress blog where I am doing this includes a page called
<a href="http://fantasywebfiction.wordpress.com/more-web-fiction/">More Web Fiction</a>
where I invite other authors to submit links and short descriptions of their work.

And fantasy readers might like reading my novel too.

Hey all,

I've launched my new project, GPU, over on my website. I've posted the first five chapters to give a flavor of what's coming, and I'd like your thoughts.

It's a college story, but two things make it unique.

First, it's told from the perspective of a graduate student, rather than an undergrad.

Second, instead of being set in a world of magic, it's set in a landscape I call "Yesterday's Tomorrow" - basically, what the world was supposed to look like in the 2000s according to the 1950s and 60s.

Here's a link to the first chapter - http://allantmichaels.digitalnovelists.com/GPU-Chapter%201

Comments are always welcome. And when Chris gets through the backlog, I'll submit it to the Guide.

Heyo! My serialized mystery is listed and working well, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to make the software work better? I'm trying for simplicity and a fairly spartan design, but I want to make sure I'm on the right track. Is the navigation easy to figure out? Does the voting work as expected? (voting may be closed when you read this... it's open Thursday-Tuesday). Anything I'm missing?

Well, I'm shouting this one off the rooftops -- starting today I'm publishing SIGMA, a brand new STREET universe story on Twitter. It will feature multiple story updates a day and is interactive; the main character will respond to direct messages and @replies. It's something you should be paying attention to! ;)

You can find SIGMA here: https://twitter.com/sigmastory

It's set decades before the events in Empathy, none of the familiar STREET characters have been born yet, but the past has been known to echo into the future in some ways . . .

In any case, it's cool and you need to follow it.

Regards,
