I've updated the About page to make that aspect of the stories more obvious. Thanks for the suggestion.

"There are multiple stories, yes, but they share characters and setting, and will probably eventually share plot elements, so I want to have them all in one place. They're intended to run in sequence, not be completely independent."

Just the kind of story I like. I had not picked up on that though from my previous visits to the site. I think it might be an idea to make that a little clearer somehow for new readers without any previous knowledge of the story, i.e. those who have not been referred from a source such as WFG.

Hope it helps.

M :)

Thanks for the thoughts, Miladysa, and I'm glad you enjoyed what you read!

I changed the Home page now so it has an excerpt from the most recent story on top, and the News posts underneath that. I have a link that drops down from the "Read" button to go to the start of the current story. Is that button too hidden, you think?

I've taken most of the inspiration for my navigation from web comics, so I'm still working out the best way to adapt that to web fiction.

What would your suggestion be instead of the current "Chapter List" page? There are multiple stories, yes, but they share characters and setting, and will probably eventually share plot elements, so I want to have them all in one place. They're intended to run in sequence, not be completely independent. Just trying to get a clearer sense of what your feedback is on this point. Thanks. :)

I like it.

I agree with M.E.Traylor regarding the home link leading to the story rather than the News page. However, I would prefer to land at the Prologue rather than the current chapter.

Also, I would change the "Chapters" tab as you have more than one story on there. Chapters made me think that the link was leading to the chapters for that particular story, when in fact it led to the Chapters for all the stories on the site.

Enjoyed the prologue -- intriguing :)

Thanks for the thoughts on the link colour.

I've struggled back and forth between having story or news on the home page. I think you're probably right that the story could be more directly accessible. What I might try to do is have an excerpt from the most recent chapter appear at the top of the home page, with a link to read the full chapter, and then put news / blog posts underneath that. It'll take some code work, but it should be doable.

The TwentyEleven theme is pretty clean, and your color scheme works with the exception of the blue links. I remember that you can change that in the theme settings. That shade of blue just feels really jarring, very cheerful and bloggish. Also, I tend to like seeing the latest update on the front page, rather than blog posts, so I don't have to search for the link. It might also be a way to garner new readers, so they can get right into the material.

I launched my new web serial, Special People, a few weeks ago. I'd appreciate feedback on the site design.

I've kept things really simple. It's the newest default WordPress theme (TwentyEleven), but customized and with a bunch of modified CSS.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions!

I started a serial novel a few months ago (Guts and Sass: An Anti-Epic), and I've been making friends with Drupal and learning how to make it do everything I want. Now that I've gotten a foundation for my website design I'd like to ask for some design feedback. I have one main concern, that related but pertinent non-story content distracts from the story content (such as in the sidebars and between the header image and the posts). My main focus is the story, but there's little features or announcements I want to be easily available to readers.

I'd love to know how the site does or does not flow for you, and any other subject of design you can think of, from the headers to the layout, use of fonts, theme, what have you. Suggestions for improvements are welcome!

Thanks a lot!

Thank you both very much. I'm thinking about a different graphic scheme to allow for black text on white for the next time I get into a snit and feel like changing everything.

Appreciate you taking the time out to look!

It's quite the story - raw, vicious, and compelling.

I haven't had any problems with navigating the text, and the extras like maps and character summaries are enlightening. It gives the overall impression of a project that has been carefully thought out, and that gives me confidence in the story as a whole.

I also don't like reading white on black, but the text is large and clear enough that it hasn't really bothered me.

Jaeger,

I'm not a fan of zombie stories at all--that said, I found it very intriguing! Looks clean and easy to navigate. Very nice (even if it is just a blogger site!)

My only complaint is the white font on black background-- hard for me to read (over 40 eyes)

I found the addition of the setting, character biographies, etc very interesting. Great visuals! I'm not sure if this is common in webfiction? I like visuals and everything visual on your site was impressive!

I read the first page and enjoyed what I read. (other than eye strain - but I'm battling a major headache today, so that doesn't help. ;))

I'm now 7 Chapters into the story with 6 Entries per chapter. Added supplemental pages to describe things like the setting, where folks are spending a lot of time, and character biographies. Pictures and maps too! Redesigned the site now that I've got a better grasp of how Blogger works.

I'd love some feedback, both on the story itself and the functionality of the web page. Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks in advance!
Software: I use Yola's site builder, which is like the old geocities one with many differences. You choose one of their themes, and depending on what you choose you can change the background and the banner. I use the free service right now, but I'm planning on upgrading my service to a paid one in due time. I think it makes my life really simple for building webpages etc compared to geocities, so I love it.

Uh, I got sucked into reading the story and didn't pay much attention to anything else. So, um, yeah, I'd say it works pretty well. :)

I think it's fairly easy to navigate. Like the image on the top. Think the first sentence is pretty much one of the best tugger-inners I've seen on the web, and that's important for web fiction.
