I launched my new web serial, Special People, a few weeks ago. I'd appreciate feedback on the site design.

I've kept things really simple. It's the newest default WordPress theme (TwentyEleven), but customized and with a bunch of modified CSS.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions!

I started a serial novel a few months ago (Guts and Sass: An Anti-Epic), and I've been making friends with Drupal and learning how to make it do everything I want. Now that I've gotten a foundation for my website design I'd like to ask for some design feedback. I have one main concern, that related but pertinent non-story content distracts from the story content (such as in the sidebars and between the header image and the posts). My main focus is the story, but there's little features or announcements I want to be easily available to readers.

I'd love to know how the site does or does not flow for you, and any other subject of design you can think of, from the headers to the layout, use of fonts, theme, what have you. Suggestions for improvements are welcome!

Thanks a lot!

Hello there!

Now that my first attempt at writing has actually been listed somewhere, I was hoping to get some feedback/suggestions on the site's layout. I'm still tweaking it and open to making changes. Unfortunately I'm using Blogger's free service right now so my options are a little limited. Thus I went for straight functionality with the hope that content would matter more.

http://webfictionguide.com/listings/dead-too-rights/

Oh! And feedback on the story itself is very welcomed, including what I've done wrong and what parts are most enjoyable. Its my first go at this writing thing but it won't be my last!

Thanks so very much,

For anyone that's come by and looked at my site: http://dragonoftwilight.net, you'll notice one thing... IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP! (Then again, maybe it's just me and I'm using "author vision", where one's own works look like sins against the natural order, despite your best attempts at trying to make something decent and/or beautiful.) Now, I USED to use KompoZer, but I've recently switched over to SeaMonkey Composer, which isn't all that different.

So, to the main point, please list your site and what you used to make it. Something like...

Site: http://dragonoftwilight.net

I'm considering switching my story from livejournal to a wordpress blog because I lust after the 'schedule posts' function like nothing else. I am bad at getting posts up on time. I want to make software do it for me.

So, everyone, what do you think of your current hosts? What made you choose them, and what are the pros and cons?

firstly I want to ask you a simple direct question: I'm experiencing a slight slowdown of the loading speed of my blog. I'm totally inexperienced as far as blogging or coding or any other technical matters, but I think that I've read in someplace (i think here) that it's 'heavier' for wordpress(.com) to load pages than posts. Apart from the news, all other things (chapters etc) are pages (nearing 90 pages with my private ones). Can this be the cause?

In the same spirit, is snapshots any useful or only annoying?

Now, to a more 'general' formating question. I've read here that having my chapters in posts is better than having them on pages. Apart from the feed, is there any other significant reason for that? (Because having to move all my pages as posts will be... let's say not pleasant)

And lastly a request. Can someone tell me if my site is 'well set up'. Are the things in there accessible? Suggestions to make it better?

Thanks.

The front page of my blog can be found in my signature as 'Rebirth in Darkness'

Leem on "Review Request - Ketrin"

My ongoing webnovel Ketrin has been listed ( http://webfictionguide.com/listings/ketrin/ ) for a couple of months now, and to date has attracted about as much attention as a fart in a hurricane. I realise it's very long and it would be a bit much to ask anyone to read the whole thing in one go. Nevertheless, I would welcome (though not without some trepidation) any constructive criticism.

To date the story has only garnered two "proper" reviews. Chris Poirier's mini-review on this site isn't exactly enthusiastic, but does find an "almost mythic quality" to the narrative; a previous review by Morgan O'Friel on Pages Unbound praised the plot and prose but found the story "out-right preachy".

So, while not the glowing praise I'd hoped for, those reviews do at least raise some useful points, although I'm slightly nonplussed by Poirier's claim that "it just doesn’t hold together".

Still, maybe not too shabby for a story that was originally conceived as a soft porn novella and then snowballed over the course of a ridiculous amount of time into a (still-unfinished) novel-length adventure story with literary pretensions.

As for the site design, I know it's a bit basic right now and I'm hoping to spruce it up a bit in future. I have made one alteration from the screenshot, which is to put all the navigation into a box at the top left of each page. It would be nice to give the site some more visual content; ideally I'd like to find a talented (and preferably cheap!) artist to provide illustrations, but where to find one?

And then of course there's the whole thorny question of promotion. Given the story's erotic content, where would be the best place to advertise it?

Looking at the new reviews page, I realized as a reader, I would see the stars, but I wouldn't know what they meant to the editors. I know what two stars or three stars means to me, but I think it would be helpful for our readers to know why editors rate the way they do. It's true there's a page to find this information, but it's located in the About section, and nowhere to be found near the reviews.

So I've been working on redesigning my site to make it a little less cumbersome and improve the general look and readability.

I want to keep 2 sidebars--one for navigation and such, and one for my support the site box and skyscraper ad. I've reworked the header, but I'm not quite happy with it. Here's the main site with the working design, and here's the blog with another theme I was working on.

I'm thinking that I'm going to take the window, text, and link colors from the blog and put them into the main site. I'm considering using the header from the blog too, but I like the menu navigation on the main site.
I would just implement the theme from the blog, but it lacks some of the features and widget compatibility that I like from the main site's theme.

So, any thoughts on the site design? Should I just give up on the 2 sidebar thing and make it one long sidebar? Any feedback would be appreciated.
