Hello all!

So I've been looking to expand my site and hopefully my readership--the thing is, I dunno what else to do!

Months ago I revamped my site to be more user friendly. With time I've tweaked things here and there, only I'm still certain there's more that I can improve upon. My main concern is readability; is it too overwhelming/cluttered with text, links, and images, or does it need more obvious navigation? My second concern is professional appeal; does my site look like it takes itself seriously, and does it look good doing it? Does the warm, brown scheme seem dull? Should I go with a cool-colored theme? Maybe pay for a pro-wordpess theme that seems befitting a fantasy novel?

I've been trying to polish my website in preparation for the new installment set to begin by this Fall at the latest. As I begin that, I was going to make an ad push on webcomic sites, and (hopefully) begin offering premium content to my readers. But with premium content and serious advertising, it stands to reason that I should have a serious website, right?

So whatever feedback I can get, that'd be extremely great!!

I came across this Wordpress plugin while building the website for my new web serial. What it does is detect if a user is using a mobile device such as an ipod, android, or blackberry and then displays your website in a clean format and display for that device. I tried it on my site on an ipod touch and it made my site look like an app complete with touchscreen support.

Really easy to implement.

If you have a mobile device you can see it in action on my site here:

I'm considering switching my story from livejournal to a wordpress blog because I lust after the 'schedule posts' function like nothing else. I am bad at getting posts up on time. I want to make software do it for me.

So, everyone, what do you think of your current hosts? What made you choose them, and what are the pros and cons?

Christopher Clarke on "WordPress eBook Export Plugin"

I've just uploaded a very very early development release of an eBook exporting plugin for WordPress. It's not ready for prime time. The codes not commented, its not feature complete and its very very messy with some embarrasing bits thrown in too.

Anyway, it currently takes a category, and saves it as an ePub file that may or may not be valid - I based the file it generates on something I downloaded. It seems to work ok in Stanza for iPod Touch.

I'm planning to support MobiPocket, DocBook, PDF, TXT and HTML.

Planned Features:

Automatically generate eBook as chapters are published

Other mentioned formats

Saving informaton about the eBooks (currently you have to fill out the form each time)

Reordering chapters --currently based on date

Ability to include pages like forword, dedication

Suggestions?

Usage:

To use, just upload the unzipped folder to your WordPress wp-content/wp-plugins folder. Be sure to chmod /eBooks/ to 0777 or change the permissions so its writable by PHP. It requires PHP 5.2 or higher. Then activate the plugin. To create the eBook, go Tools -> Create eBook and fill in the form. Chapter Category takes the ID of the category that contains your chapters - will make that a drop down soon. Then submit the form and it will give you a URL.

Download Plugin

Note: Since its very very early days, bug reports probably won't help at this point unless the ePub file is wrong.

firstly I want to ask you a simple direct question: I'm experiencing a slight slowdown of the loading speed of my blog. I'm totally inexperienced as far as blogging or coding or any other technical matters, but I think that I've read in someplace (i think here) that it's 'heavier' for wordpress(.com) to load pages than posts. Apart from the news, all other things (chapters etc) are pages (nearing 90 pages with my private ones). Can this be the cause?

In the same spirit, is snapshots any useful or only annoying?

Now, to a more 'general' formating question. I've read here that having my chapters in posts is better than having them on pages. Apart from the feed, is there any other significant reason for that? (Because having to move all my pages as posts will be... let's say not pleasant)

And lastly a request. Can someone tell me if my site is 'well set up'. Are the things in there accessible? Suggestions to make it better?

Thanks.

The front page of my blog can be found in my signature as 'Rebirth in Darkness'

I'm moving my story to a different website, and also a different platform (Wordpress -> Drupal).

Now, this creates issues, namely with importing. Now, beyond just moving to Drupal, I've also restructured the layout of the site, the news goes into my blog, and there's two seperate books, one for the main story, and one for any bonus stories I write.

Now, as I see it, I have two options here:

I manually put in all the chapters (there's only some 25 of them, it'll only take an afternoon). This'll work perfectly, but I'll lose my comments.

I can spend however long trying to write an import script that will read the XML dump of the WordPress site and import everything nicely. I've had a search around, and all the premade things are done for Drupal 5, or even Drupal 4, I can't see anything for Drupal 6, and the way I've structured the new site, I don't think a premade solution would work nicely anyway.

So, anyone have any advice? Are comments that important to spend the extra time?
