What is all the arguing and nitpicking about here? This should be a long list of people putting their facebook ads up her if they have them.

If you don't or don't think it's cool, forget it. Duh.

    Our profile is here:

What we've been hearing is that we should have done a fan page or group. But we don't know zip about these networks and this seems to be working.

I've set up a page on Facebook too: http://www.facebook.com/MadilonOnline

I think the question isn't whether FB is effective or not. The thing is, in 2009, you _have_ to be on Facebook. :)

Probably something close to that, Terry.

Hey that Free eDay thing you have is INCREDIBLY COOL.

Exactly the sort of "Web 3" thing online writers should be doing.
I like the way you don't have to join or sign up or anything, just jump in.
I'm already thinking of what to do for it.

Do everybody a favor and start a thread on that event. It's major.

And, hey, I see they have a facebook group:

From what I can tell, he difference between a Page and a personal profile, is this :
In the personal profile, you have a home page, where you can see the activity of all your friends, and you are only accessible if you have been "friended".
The Page, is accessible by all people logged on to FB, and they can add comments and write on your Wall, even if you haven't accepted them as friends.

I wanted a page, because I wanted people to have a place to comment on my stories. I am embarassed though, that in order to comment, they have to become "fans". I don't need to have fans, I only need to have interlocutors! I thought having a FB page would be a good thing. So far, I have three "fans" (thank you Lin!) and a few comments...

Yes, some for me: I don't need a Fan Page dedicated to myself. But a page for the web series is what I need: a way to start building a small community. Least I can say is that it's still a work in progress. But in time, I hope it'll grow and attract people who like to interact through Facebook (not all people do, some just set up their page and never post anything).

I finally set up a page for Refuge of Delayed Souls - http://tiny.cc/WiNn6

I have added everyone here to my favourites page & become a fan where possible.

Please let me know if I have overlooked you :)

Thanks, I'll add you! (And I think I have some catching up to do in that area.)

I've also set up a page for my new series, launched last night, here.

Oh, and while we are talking FB, here is a link that some may find useful and that I had all the trouble imaginable finding:

    http://www.facebook.com/username/

If you follow that link, you will be prompted to choose a username for your personal page... but also for your Fan Pages. Yes, that means prettier URLs. :)

I've included a link below, but my efforts to start a community there have met... limitations. Amusingly, of the 15 or so 'fans' on the page, I think only half of them are part of my active readership (also of, uh, sixteen).

Pragmatically, I'm more interested in this now as a way to get into other writers' work, so I'll probably trawl through the pages in this thread.

no i don't have a FB page for my work. it would induce fatal guilt spasms... but will add myself to pages of stories i've read and spread the word to my semi-literate FB network :D or you can add me and prod me with a sharpened stick if i take too long (am on meilin and miladysa's pages).
    keep linking...

and i went to the Free E-day page on facebook. information appears to be sketchy. maybe i haven't had my full dose of caffeine yet but i don't get it. when i'm reading promotional material, if it's not immediately clear what it's about, i'm not going to go jumping through a zillion other pages to find out more unless the buzz in my ear is deafening. anyone want to a-b-c it for me? :D

Very simple put: on Decembre 1st, artists offer freebies. :)

For web fiction writers it can take several form. Personally, all my work is free so I decided to put together a Reader's Companion for the occasion (for Madilon). It fits a sci-fi universe well, anyway.

The Free-e-day website and brochure are just a way to centralize info about we does what, with links to the places where the free works will be made available on Dec. 1st.

Hate to bump up an old thread, but just wanted to throw my own in the pile. I went through and added all authors with fan pages to my page`s favorites.

Oh yeah, and I`m back in the game, folks. ;)

Ehh . . . After all these years, I may finally have to cave in and get a Facebook page.

    I feel so dirty.
