Changing Serial Subject Tags

6 days ago | mathtans (Member)

As I get deeper into some of the quirky genetics stuff in my serial ("Time & Tied", part 85), it occurs to me that I could have added a "science fiction" tag to the listing at the outset. (I picked the more specific 'time travel'. Along with 'urban fantasy', etc.) Which seems like a silly thing to think about, except it doesn't escape my notice that there is a "Science Fiction" sub header in "Top Web Fiction" which is less busy than the "Fantasy" sublist. (My 3-4 votes sometimes pops me up on the bottom of that listing, I never get enough to reach the main page.)

So how does one go about adding a tag to a story that's already listed in WFG? (Or modifying a tag, for the benefit of anyone else seeing this thread later.) I have no problem resubmitting the entire thing with one additional tag (I just submitted my math serial, finally, hence this thought), but that seems like that would increase admin workload (and confusion) unnecessarily. Is there some easier way? Has anyone ever tried doing this?

I'm pretty sure you could change it in submissions, but I just added it for you.

Oh, thanks Jim! Is that submission listing a live document then, that can be updated at any time (like with a "completed" status or the like)? Just wondering for future reference.

More or less. If you're already listed, you can go change your tags (or description or whatever) at any time and it won't dump you back into submissions.

Are you sure it doesn't dump you back into submissions? I went into my listing and changed the update frequency, and now the status says "awaiting editor attention"

Interesting. It may well dump you into the submissions queue, but it doesn't remove you from the website, making it impossible to find as is true of the actual submissions.

The submission goes back into the queue for review. Your existing listing isn't updated until it's approved.

Thanks for the clarifications. In fact, now going back to the "info & submissions" page for my T&T, I don't see the 'science fiction' tag, even though it must be in the database (I got a scifi hit from TWF yesterday). Implying that the document there is a separate entity. It does make sense that database modifications would need moderator/editor approval.
