Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting a buffer ready for Xmas and I'd like to be able to take a break, so I thought I'd ask here for help. Would anyone like to write a short post for the Archive of Unusual Events? Basically, posts are about 300 words on some bizarre and supernatural happening. Hopefully it will be fast and fun to write! Humour and sarcasm are encouraged. In return you'll get a link back to your site and I'll owe you one.

Rather than trying to fit with my writing voice, I thought the guest posts could be structured as if they were from one of the many paranormal research or other related organisations in the world, being sent to the Archive as a letter, news or report. You can invent your own organisation and character or use one of the ones I've mentioned already to spark your creativity. I've got a list I can send you.

You'd be doing me an awesome solid. If you want to email me about it I'm contactable at g4sythe(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk.

Actually I thought I'll just post my list of orgs and characters here so you can see what's going on. You can write for any of the characters or groups that take your fancy except the Archive and J- T-. (A researcher within J- T-'s Surreal Institute would be fine.)

    The Archive of Unusual Events
Represented by the Archivist. The Archive records, and occasionally helps with, paranormal events. Its online presence acts as a news service for the paranormal research community. There is a sentient bromeliad on the reception desk.

Paranormal Department of the University of Western Australia.
It’s not stated how many universities have a hidden paranormal department, but this is the only one referenced by name so far.

    J- T-
A very, very wealthy man who uses his monetary power to give himself prominence in the paranormal study community. Has founded and runs the Surreal Institute, which has also granted him some honorary qualifications. Known for spreading controversial but poorly-thought-out opinions, like “Adolf Hitler was not human” or “Research on paranormal creatures shouldn’t be restricted by standard moral guidelines.” Has been caught smuggling extinct or cryptid animals into Australia twice already. Occasionally surprises everyone by being helpful.

    Professor F-
A famous researcher and adventurer. Among other feats she has discovered at least one subterranean civilisation, is an expert on deity wrangling, beat an incarnation of Mars in an arm wrestling match, has published several well-cited papers on narrative determinism, and recently married her athletic lab assistant (now Mr. F-). Loves danger, low survival rate for her assistants.

    Radio Controlled Aeroplane Hobbyists
A group of radio-controlled androids which spend their time observing airports. No one knows where they come from or where they disappear to. They are highly peaceful and have never been known to harm anyone, but have captured armed cultists simply by sheer weight of numbers.

    US National Park Rangers
Know a lot more about the paranormal than they let on.

    Giant Climbers
Similar to the Munroe Baggers of Scotland there is a society (of sorts) of giant climbers, who attempt to view and stand upon every known giant in their geographical area. They are most active in Europe, since that is where the most recorded giants are, but giants have been found worldwide. Giant climbers are considered rather foolish by the wider community, as giants are a) not actually very difficult to climb, rarely being more than 50 metres tall in their dormant state and b) liable to cause untold destruction to the local area if disturbed enough to take action.

The International Paranatural Research Unit. Has at least two known researchers designated Q- and R-. Q- is telepathic.

    Hull Parascience
Well known research institute based in Hull in the UK. Originally called “The Learned Hull Society of Investigation for Paranormal Sciences and Aberrant Events By Which We May Further Understand This Singular Creation, ie. The World.” By founder Doctor Beauregard, who was not good at names.

    Cairo Inimical Artifacts Department
Searches for and contains artifacts inimical to humans and other lifeforms. Headed by a Sphinx called Jerribean.

    The Good Knight Holiday Club.
They are a group of duelling and Historical European Martial Arts enthusiasts who travel around the world defeating Black Knights and thus relieving them of their vigils. They then take in the warriors, show them around the world, bring them up to speed on what they have missed and generally entertain them until the knight is ready to take up his post. The rested Black Knight can then return to his place and defeat the club member who has been guarding his post, gaining the guardianship once again. The Good Knight Holiday Club have become extremely adept at duels against heavily armoured opponents, and are rarely even slightly injured in the process. This is despite facing opponents who have centuries of experience with the sword. Techniques learned from the Black Knights occasionally filter back to the mundane HEMA movement, who are often keen to enhance their historical accuracy.

    The International College of Librarians
Help keep the world safe from books.

This seems interesting! I'm a wee bit preoccupied right now owing to the launch of "Time & Tied Book 4", plus there's some things happening at home, but I'd be in a position to look into it starting the middle of next week. What kind of timeline were you looking at here in terms of idea/first draft/approval? If that's too late, just let me know.

    how political can I get?

@Mathtans That's cool, as long as I have the final post by mid-December.
@Alexander.Hollins That depends on what you want to do. Imaginary politics is awesome, but the community in general works hard to keep the paranatural out of the mundane world as much as possible. For example see the Archivist's 2016 paper "Why Hitler wasn't influenced by any real occult forces and you should accept that sometimes people are just horrific all by themselves."

Nippoten has already sent me the first one from a researcher at the Surreal Institute, so big thanks! Every one of these I get is extra time I spend with my family at Christmas.
