    Two were made and released before the serial went live, a third after. I posted them in places where there might be potential readers, Twitter, tumblr, other forums. Other than that I let them sit and get views naturally. I'm not sure if they did a whole lot overall, but the creative energy toward making them was more than worth it. :) Plus, I think they can exemplify what makes fiction posted on the web so special.

    Here's some links to them in case anyone wants to check them out.

    Your "concept art" is better than a lot of people's final illustrations. The dimensions of those pictures would work really well as Pinterest pins if you ever have the itch to use them. I would repin them for whatever that is worth.

    On paying artists: whenever I see something cheap (like fiverr) I get excited for a whole solid second before I realize that the artist is getting screwed. Still, I have employed some of my artist friends for beer and $50 for a project here and there, but only because that is what they asked from me.

    @nippoten

    These trailers are really cool, if I wasn't already familiar with your work they would have peaked my interest! I think something like this would be better employed to get a preexisting audience excited about a new arc or book through your platform (Facebook Group, mailinglist...ect) and let them spread it organically. Beyond that, I have no idea how to employ video. Would this be something you would consider doing again?

    Thank you for the article shoutout in your update! I always open those emails and read them when I can :)

    Plenty of musicians get some momentum off a really good/eye-catching debut video, especially in the DIY world of soundcloud rap. If you know how to make something truly cool and interesting, people will gravitate towards it.

    I definitely have plans to do something like this again.

    Heh it's certainly easier on the eyes. Maybe edit the opening post to just links instead of that monstrosity of unformatted word wall? (I can call it a monstrosity because I'm liable for most of the great wall of text.)

    One thing I do is put the link to my story in my profile on fanfiction boards. I've got a few clicks that way.

    So I guess it's a good thing I do my own illustrations for my story? For once, I feel somewhat lucky to sort of know how to draw.

    I still post up fan art, but at least there's "canon" art that I use as references for everything.

    Ugh, I really need to create some sort of mailing list content and work on building that list. :P

    In the words of Jeff Goldblum: Well, there it is.

    Not surprising, but still a painful sign of just how the internet has shifted to punish small and independent creatives.
