Looking for Review Swaps

5 years ago | Baron Mind (Member)

Hey! The first novella in my series The Experiment has concluded, and I'd love to get some feedback on it as I start in on the second arc. If anyone would like to read through and review it, I'd be happy to return the favor for your story! I'm about to leave town for the weekend, but Monday's a holiday, which ought to give me some time to get some reading done.

If you're interested, The Reluctant Superhero can be found at https://experimentserial.wordpress.com/ , or https://experimentserial.wordpress.com/book-1-the-reluctant-superhero/ if you don't like clicking sidebar links. Heck, I'll even send you the Kindle file if you'd rather read it that way.

Hi. I actually just finished reading that a few days ago. I've been negligent on writing reviews for things recently, but I'll go ahead and put one up for you.

I'm not asking for a review swap, though. Actually kind of the opposite. Since I read the story before you posted this request, I'd like to go ahead and write my review as though it were unsolicited, haha. If you do want to read my story in return, feel free, but you don't need to bother with a review. :)

    That's easy enough; thank you!

    Sure, I'm in.

Just a warning: my stories tend to run long- the first is about 120k, and the second book starts *dark*. Easily the darkest thing I've ever written, probably the darkest thing I ever will write. I've had people flip out over politics before (apparently men can't be raped by women and I'm evil and deserve to die for saying otherwise... HAH!)

Also, the two books are only connected to one another tenuously (same setting, both in the USA but in different states). Reading one will only have an impact on the meta level understanding of the other, but is not required.

You're free to pick either one to review if you like, but expecting you to do both is just unfair.

    Anywho... you got your review.

Gonna go out on a limb and say Douglas Adams was a big influence on your style.

Sure, I'll take you up on that. My serial doesn't appear to be working in my Signature at the moment, so I'm just gunna link you to it here: warblerwebnovel.weebly.com
I'm on Break at the moment, so I should have your review up by the end of the week.

Thanks, TanaNari and JPV! I'm back in town and excited to have new reading material now. I'll post reviews for your work when I'm done reading!

Dark doesn't bother me, as long as it's well-written. I appreciate the warning, though.

And as for Douglas Adams -- I hadn't really thought about it, but I certainly do love his stuff, so you're probably right!

Eren: I'm going to drop a review for you, too. Since you wanted to pull the 'not solicited' thing... and I'll return the favor via roundabout fashion. (You have shown integrity, it earned my respect.)

Plus your story is hilarious fun.

Baron: You're good at finding that sort of voice. I think with a few more years to refine your style, and more social minded commentary, you legitimately could do with superheroes what they did with Science Fiction and Fantasy.

For myself? I'm angling more toward Gaiman with my style. Though no one's ever compared me to him. Instead, I get compared to Welles, Kubrick and GRR Martin. Know what? I'll fucking take it! Unfortunately, I do not have a beard nearly epic enough to walk in those footsteps.
