Thanks to Gavin for the review!

(Also, in retrospect, an aside--the review I just posted for Ladybird looks like it was a response to yours, but it really wasn't--I read the review by ScholarMan and was intrigued enough by their rather dry attempt at sarcasm)

It's funny -- your review picks up on the same thing that bothered me in the last paragraph of mine -- that there's a lot of humour but not necessarily much meaning. Further reading might alleviate that possibility, but it was amusing enough to rate three and a half for me because I didn't get bored.

I've noticed on your last few reviews that you're not giving stars?

I don't know if Scholarman is being sarcastic, when the review is accompanied by 5 stars -- it seems more like continuing the joke or appreciating the humour of the story.

They described the prose as 'Faulknerian'. They're either joking or very, very displaced.

Also, yeah, I don't like the hierarchy that stars imply ("This story is better than that story!")--once I figure out something more to my liking, I might go back and start starring all the stories I've left blank.

Hierarchy might seem a bad word, but, really, we have 600 listings: if we don't order them somehow, nobody will ever find anything. The rating stars you and other members give things help set the ordering. Without them, the system doesn't function as well.

    Chris.

Oh yeah--I'm not lodging a complaint against the system at all. I completely understand that ratings must exist for the purpose of structure and organization. I'm just personally displeased by the implications my ratings have whenever I look at the stories I've reviewed ("Do I really think that this story was better than that one? Do I even want to make these sort of comparisons?"). I assumed that since the rating is optional for the review, it'd be fine to eschew ratings entirely until I figured some personal method of assigning stars that I was more comfortable with.

Edit: It's likely something I'll just get over, anyway.

And "this story" can certainly be better than "that story" for one reviewer or another -- anyone that disagrees with a review can post their own and balance out the math.

Thanks to both Jaws415 and Tahjir for their reviews of The Last Skull--much sooner than I expected! I'm immensely appreciative of the feedback and so on--sorry about being slow to respond as well as not updating The Skull too recently--I'll be posting the next three parts (along with an explanation of my absence) later today!
