New site migration!

3 months ago | ubersoft (Member)

So last week I ranted on Twitter how I was going to migrate off Drupal to WordPress, purely out of spite, because they made the migration path from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 impossible unless you're a php programmer. On Tuesday I decided "hey, let's see how far I can get if I try?"

Well, tonight I managed to move all the webfiction over to a test site on an alternate domain: http://www.dtcweb.com

It's still pretty basic, and the template is... um. Garish. But it had all the navigation tweaks I wanted. It's a different way of thinking about data on a site, and site organization in general, but it's been an interesting process.

Anyway, those of you who manage your sites with WordPress, I'd appreciate you taking a look around and making recommendations. If anyone can recommend some good WordPress templates, I'd appreciate it.

i like it. doesn't look good in the little shrunken window I use for reading web fiction at work, the big tiles don't scale down well, but I'm used to that. Navigation looks good, and for full screen, the picture tiles are cool. I might suggest trying to shrink down the images that head each chapter of the various fictions, lots of scrolling to get to the actual words. I haven't tested it on a phone.

I like The Arcade Basic theme. I need to reinstall it on my own site. Ashandblue.com is using it currently.

I moved over to a different theme which uses smaller tiles. So far I've managed to move over all the fiction, 3/4 of my comics (though that's deceptive, since Help Desk is the remaining 1/4 and it's 2300+ individual nodes) and all the articles.

dtcweb.com keeps throwing server 500 errors, which I assume is because my Dreamhost account isn't really intended to host something like this. That ought to disappear when I move it over to my actual site.

I think this is going to happen, by God.
