Review Swap: Exiles

7 months ago | McQueenSerialFantasy (Member)

Hey folks!

I'm hoping to trade reviews with a couple of people, probably two or three. My serial is called "Exiles." It's listed on WebFictionGuide but is also available on through my website here: http://www.mcqueenserialfantasy.com.

I don't have a ton to offer in terms of promotional weight, which is to say I don't have gazillions of followers, but I would be happy to post a review of your work here on WebFictionGuide in return. I can probably handle two or three trades in a reasonable time frame if multiple people are interested.

Depending on the length of your work, I may not be able to read the whole thing, but I'm only expecting people to read the first 4-8 issues of mine as well.

Anyway, if this trade sounds appealing, reply below ^_^

Also, I'm very new here, so if I'm pitching this wrong, please let me know.

I'll be willing to do a review later this week. Had a liver biopsy Friday, so I'm kinda stuck without much to do, so some reading would be a great help to my mood. I'm also kinda desperate for reviews myself--I've only got two of them despite The Revelation being listed for almost a year now. Be warned that the story has some disturbing imagery and quite a bit of swearing. It's currently at about 33 chapters long (34 coming later this week), but I'm not expecting all of that to be read. Sticking to Signs and Wonders section will be fine, as that arc (or segment, or part) ends on the titular revelation.

I've been reading it all morning. Currently on Chapter 15. It's pretty cool so far. I'll let you know when I'm done and the review is up.

Any other additional takers? I read a bunch, so I have room in my schedule for one or two more people who are interested in a swap.

Heads up: I managed to write a review. Keep in mind that I only made it six chapters in, but so far, the story is very compelling.

I'll happily take you up on this, my story's relatively short, if it helps. It's over on touchwebserial.com and I'll be able to review yours in the next week or so, if that works for you.

Thanks! I mean, damn, did you invest some time in that. I saw the three stars, but that didn't faze me since honest criticism is something I admire. And well, you were honest. I don't think I can give you as good a review, but I'll try my absolute best. :)

I appreciate your honesty, and I'm not expecting any special treatment.

I really do like your story. It reminds me of Ender's Game, both in it's technology-rich world and in the nature of your hero, but I really do think you need to adjust the pacing. I kept finding myself wanting to see and hear more of the story you were telling. That's a good thing, because it means the story and the characters are gripping. The story is good, and if you slowed by a few miles an hour you'd have something really special.

I'll fix the pace within my next few chapters. I'll put a chapter or two for some reflection, to let readers digest everything that's happened so far. And then, after that, I'll try slowing down. Just that I base my writing off of real-life experience, and the pace is similar to how I'm hit with test after test while struggling to digest every concept. So, well, I might have to step out of my comfort zone, there. Also, Ender's Game, huh? There *are* similarities, aren't there? But, of course, there are also differences, so I don't have to worry about originality. I like Ender's Game a lot as well. Also, I think I might take a little time to finish reading your book. Have some schoolwork taking up my time, so I haven't spent as much time on it as I would've liked. But if procrastination doesn't get the better of me, I think I can get a review out in the next week. Toodles.
