T&T Book 4: Can It Get Worse?

4 years ago | mathtans (Member)

After 5 months, my "Time & Tied" serial has concluded "Book 3", reaching Part 70. So I thought I'd post here for a few reasons.

1) Book 4 started this week! It's fully edited after many months of work; for those who don't know, the whole serial is a revised version of something I originally wrote from 2001-2009. I've created a new index page, if anyone wants to jump in, no need to start at Part 1: https://mathtans.wordpress.com/2016/11/28/resolution-index/

2) My statistics for November were terrible. I clawed past 200 page views (with 87 visitors), making it the 2nd worst month of 2016, only ahead of January. This despite having TWICE the number of weekly postings, because in October I shifted to Tues/Fri posts (of ~2k words) instead of a single Fri post (of ~4k words). So it IS my worst "views per post" month. And my last serial post of October (just over 4 weeks ago) has a mere *4* views, all on a website that's been running continuously with no breaks for 27 months (now at 177 posts).

Honestly, this is not a gripe, it's an attempt to make other people feel better. (I'm one of the most vocal people who is somewhere at the extreme opposite of the spectrum from Wildbow. My average star review is 3.5, it's not zero, really.) This is not even a cry for help, I already did that post a year ago (which is when I implemented all my indexes) though if you've got new ideas, sure. Along with trying to brighten your day by comparison, this is also an exercise in perseverance, or more likely stubborn thick-headedness. AND, this is a reason why you shouldn't just trust web statistics, because I did hear from one person (who originally came in via my guest post at "Legion of Nothing") who follows via RSS and thus doesn't appear in web hits. So I might have over 4 readers... it could easily be 8!

Oh, and the answer to the topic's "Can It Get Worse" is yes, it can always get worse. I have no real hope for December. I meant that as a double entendre with things getting worse for my characters. (Quick plug, Chartreuse, my bisexual character, actually gets a decent arc this book.)

3) Final reason for posting is to see if anyone actually knows of time travel message boards out there. I keep seeing more and more time travel on tv out there (and have been rather enjoying the show "Timeless") but know of no way to tap into it. Thanks for reading!

Whoah whoah whoah - slow down here!

So I'm reading the very first arc, there's a link directing me to part 27. And it all comes back around?!

I just finished the first post, she tackles herself. This sounds so fucking cool. You just need to shop this around more, man. There's an audience for this if it's any kind of well done.

Thanks! Yeah, I played around a little with the web nature of the story to start, largely because the Temporal War isn't known to the characters until midway through Book 2. You can start reading as 1-27-7-1, the alternate option, or simply read through like a normal serial. (Part 27 is a flashback piece near the start of Book 2.)

Actually, Carrie doesn't tackle herself there, she tackles someone else. She DOES tackle herself to start Book 3. I *really* tried to make the start of each Book it's own entry to the universe, but I think k-fish is the only one to have attempted reading from the start of Part 48 (or is the only one who made it to Part 49, anyway).

As to it being "well done", like anything else, the writing improves over time... I think Book 4 will be miles away from Book 1. In part because there's a lot of character/temporal theory setup in Book 1, with relatively little plot (and nothing on the War). I now forget who else here was talking about having that issue (much world building in Book 1), but that struggle is real. I've been thinking of trying the thing on RRL, but with NaNoWriMo and other projects, I haven't had the chance yet. At any rate, thanks for your opinion! You were one of five visitors yesterday. :)

That's badass man. I'll definitely check it out.

    Trying what thing on RRL?

Yeah, sounds about right. I think my best ever is like 22 visitors. That was probably the day my listing got approved here and I posted a review thread.
