April Fools Swap 2017?

Is anyone interested in trying the swap again this year? For those who don't know, the idea is that on April 1st, you post an update to your serial that is non-canon... and not written by you. You would write the update for someone else's serial! That's right, a bunch of authors sign up, get assigned one of the other author serials involved, and write them an April Fools update. The reveal is made at the end of the post, where there's a link to your serial from theirs, as well as to the post written by the usual serial author. Make sense?

We'd probably want to get this off the ground in the next week or two, so that people still have 5-6 weeks to read the serial they end up with, not to mention create their own entry, and coordinate the posting. (April 1st is a Saturday this year.) If anyone wants to see the last two years to get a better sense:

I think it would be fun.

I think it would be fun if I could swap with someone writing a similar genre, but I wouldn't want to have to bang out a sub-par piece of writing in a genre I have no skill in.

Jim, are you back in this year? YEEHA!

Thanks for being the poking prodding Jiminy Cricket on this Gregory. I was JUST talking to a friend about the swap this weekend, because I've registered an EIN for my own publishing for an llc, and an EIN for Serial Swappers, which I want to use as that Serial Novel advocacy group that was under discussion last year. So I plan on using it as a group label for the April Swap, an imprint name for the Anthology ( Which I need to work on stat as well, sigh. ) and other pro serial novel efforts going forward.

I will have an interest form out TONIGHT on this post and out to everyone that has been part of it before.

please share the link around! Emails in the morning.

Ooh, I was just making a point about something like this in one of the forum posts, but only canon. Had missed reading this before I posted there.

This is certainly an interesting proposition.

Just bumping this thread, as assignments will be formalized at the start of March (presuming there's enough who signed up). Even if you're reading this after February, you can definitely still participate, but if you want in on the ground floor -- follow the link Alex posted just above. Thanks!

Yes please! And please spread the link around! I'm sending out first assignments tommorow, we only have 7 sign ups so far. I've emailed everyone involved previously, and put comments into a few serials that I read and enjoy.

@Holly So you're not reading my serial anymore. That hurts. </3

Comments into serials that I knew the authors might not get the message here or in email! silly. (although, i am a month or so behind... i need to catch up. )

So, is this going to start soon or what? It literally takes me a month to write a chapter.

Yes, sorry, family health issues ate my last two nights. I will get them out tonight. sadly, we only have six signups so far.

Alex - I can help as needed with mails, once the "matching fu" is figured out. I wonder if the issue is fewer serials running at the moment, workload issues for those who are writing serials, a general disinterest due to this becoming routine after a few years, or some combination. (I noticed Jim posted in RRL, so the word got out...)

I appreciate the offer. I sent out all emails last night, let me know if you didnt get it and you signed up!

Gregory, I made a form, same as always , and went through copy and pasting, heh. took me like 10 minutes, and mostly just double checking them all to make sure I ddint screw up and send double (again)

Well, that was fun. Thanks to my partners this April 1st and hope everybody enjoyed the process!

Just wanted to thank Jim Zoetewey for the swap entry, it was very on the nose and took a great turn! I also wanted to thank Mathtans who was very helpful and awesome by providing me his future entries so I could better line up my own entry seamlessly into his series. This was a new thing for me and I enjoyed the opportunity to reach out to some of you and engage in some writers outreach!

Thank you Unice, glad you had fun! No problem on future entries my end revfitz, I had to pre-write the time travel lest it get away from me. :) Your entry was great too, it got Future Carrie pretty darn accurate despite her being a late addition to the narrative. (I still grin at the line "Will nothing please you?!") It's good for writers to network and stretch themselves... in fact, I participated in a swap for my math webcomic this year too (because I'm just that crazy).

I've put up the 2017 master list now, so if anyone wants to read the entries (and/or chime in on particulars), feel free to do it there. And if anyone has ideas for how to increase awareness or participation for the future, post that too.

Huh, wait, are we supposed to post the the swap on our website? How is that supposed to work if the others don't know our webserial overall plot?

Correct me if I'm wrong, or if I'm missing something.

Never mind.

Zoner, a bit late to the party, but no worries! I plan to do other serial swapper events this year, and will be working to make the april fools swap a bit bigger next year. (Would it be wrong to offer commission to some of the big names, say what they generally charge for a bonus update, to get some participation? )

MathTans! Thank you Greg for picking up the ball when I dropped it at the end here, much appreciated!
