If you guys are anything like me, you'll look for any free and effective advertising route. Facebook's groups can be really good for this, as they're focussed and give you access to people likely to like your work. It's the sort of thing I'd like to do more of, if I had the time to devote to it (I suck at self-marketing).
However, Facebook has started to crack down on posting adverts for books in groups, and as this is likely to affect serial adverts as well, I thought I'd give a heads-up.
The full thread with info and speculation is here: http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,225853.msg3155844.html
The gist seems to be that authors advertising their work on groups (usually mass-postings across 20+ groups at a time) are being banned from posting to ANY groups for 14 days, and all of their posts to that group (current and historical) are being removed. That is, all material they have posted to the group is removed, including non-adverts and admin posts/files.
Note that these authors were posting to groups that either welcome such ads, or that have promo-friendly days that encourage authors to share links and info. So, they're not spamming. The author was playing by the group's rules.
(Other speculation includes 'Facebook is pushing authors to pay for advertising', which cynical-me agrees with.)
Has anyone here tripped over this? Has anyone had any particular success from promoting through FB groups?
