New project - thoughts appreciated

Hey all,

I've launched my new project, GPU, over on my website. I've posted the first five chapters to give a flavor of what's coming, and I'd like your thoughts.

It's a college story, but two things make it unique.

First, it's told from the perspective of a graduate student, rather than an undergrad.

Second, instead of being set in a world of magic, it's set in a landscape I call "Yesterday's Tomorrow" - basically, what the world was supposed to look like in the 2000s according to the 1950s and 60s.

Here's a link to the first chapter - http://allantmichaels.digitalnovelists.com/GPU-Chapter%201

Comments are always welcome. And when Chris gets through the backlog, I'll submit it to the Guide.

It sounds like an interesting story idea. I'll have to check it out.

I'll give it a row as well.

I like a lot of the subtle references to our reality. The story seems pretty direct so far and it's reading pretty good so far, I can't seem to find anything that peaves me about it... I'll forward to more. :D

Thanks Paul!

Decent so far. The world details are a nice touch, espcially the hall names at the campus.

But honestly, I skimmed most of the chapters trying to find the part where potential conflict starts. It'll come up soon, yes?

Compared to Empire of Law, where I'm instantly thrown into something sinister in the first chapter, this one is a bit slow out of the gate.

Of course, that could just be me.

True, this has a much slower start than AEOL. I've got some stuff coming up, but it might be a little while. We'll see.

Thanks for the input.

I am intrigued by the concept of graduate student college fiction. Especially because I live with several grad students and they do have something of a different experience--one that I am discovering is under represented by modern fiction.
