Review Request (Site review)

I've put my site up on for now. I'm probably going to keep it there, because coding a whole website when I'm fairly happy with what I have seems like an incredible level of work. Also, my coding level isn't sufficient to code blogs, and I downloaded Wordpress and found it to have a steep learning curve which I'm too busy to experiment with right now.

I am planning to get a domain name before it goes live.

Anyway, here is my site. Please tell me what is wrong with it.

Looks good to me. You've got the title up top, words in the middle, extra stuff on the right. That's how we do, yeah?

I know some fancier stories give you a dropdown or whatever on the right to let you jump to any chapter without having to click on a chapter page, but I'm not sure that's necessary, particularly when your story isn't officially started yet.

I think it looks good, Chrys. The side bar format is something I do as well. You have an easy way for readers to locate chapters with the top bar index, you've included some info and a synopsis. Social media links in the side bar. Are you planning on using pictures to go with your episodes? If so, is a good site for free public domain images. I've found a lot of great ones there.

I did the same thing you did when I started my serial. I put the blog up a few months early, got all my social media sites ready, and then just did teasers all the way until the start.

Some ideas:

I took small snippet sentences out of various narratives and posted them on facebook and twitter like cool quotes to tease the readers. I got a little response and some early interest that way.

You could also entertain the idea of posting a five-episode 'event' week for the premiere and maybe even offer a giveaway. That worked really well for me at the beginning. You could use a rafflecopter:

Also, you may want to consider a thunderclap campaign for the premiere date since you have the time to build one up. It's basically a one shot blast of a facebook or twitter post that goes out on all social media pages at the same time for whoever signs up to participate. I wasn't aware of this when I started my serial or I would've jumped all over it. Here's the link:

Good luck :)

Thanks, Walter. I was thinking of rocking the boat a bit, extra stuff on the left, but that just looked messy.

Thanks Scott. I'm not sure about pictures yet, but I'll have a wander around pixabay. Either that or I'll get my camera out - finally, an excuse, Muahahaha!

How did that work out for you? I think it's better than just hitting blind.

I'm currently repurposing my Twitter, it was previously only used for hashtag games, so I'm building a more writer/reader crowd over there.

Oh, that episode week is a good idea. I was going to put my three post prologue up on Monday, then chapter 1 on Tuesday and 3 on Friday. No reason I can't split that up to daily.

Not sure on a giveaway. Need to think what I could offer. I'll look at Rafflecopter and see if it sparks ideas.

Thunderclaps sound exciting :)

Thanks for the hints.
