Verry interesting... Simon & Schuster introduces a self-publishing service.

I wonder if this is will be a new trend with big publishers?

They call it "self publishing" but it's really a vanity press. The cheapest package is $2k?

"Robbing enthusiastic new writers blind" is not, unfortunately, a new trend.

Beware - the group behind this is Author Solutions. Lots out there on this and most of it (from those who have been watching these outfits) not very encouraging.

Penguin, Harlequin all threw their hat into this ring recently too... so yes, I think it's possible you'll see more of these "Services" put out there, but hopefully most people will do some research and not shell out money simply because of the label.
